Revitalized Downtown

Our city had an ugly downtown. I mean it was horrible. In the 1970s, they had built these large concrete partitions, basically giant concrete blocks, which were built on the sides and over main street in downtown Haleyville. People thought they were going to put a roof over the street. They didn't. They just left a skeletal archway of these ugly concrete slabs. I wish I had a picture of what it used to look like. It was horrid. You couldn't see the building fronts or anything. Anyhow... they were torn down thanks to our participation in the Alabama Communities of Excellence Program. To make a really long and boring story short, our downtown was revitalized. You can see the building fronts. New sidewalks were poured. Street lamps were installed. And it looks like it used to before 1970. I took this photo at night, on Friday night, when everone was going to the theater.
